Excitement seems to be building around the First Annual It's About Life Expo, which is coming to Seattle June 20 - 22. I was surprised to find it was attracting such a huge flock of businesses from across the spectrum; from local and regional companies to some large corporations anxious to demonstrate their friendliness to gay and lesbian consumers in Seattle. But I guess it isn't any wonder?
Here are the statistics of gay consumers:
The median household income for gay men is $83,000 per year (40% reported household incomes in excess of $100,000 per year) and the median lesbian household income is $80,000 per year. (The median US household income is $46,242).61% of gay men and 69% of lesbians own a home. Both gay men and lesbians spend a median of $2,000 on travel per year.Approximately 95% of gay men and lesbians made purchases on the Internet in the last year.53% of gay men used a gym in the past month.89% of the LGBT community are more likely to support companies with favorable LGBT employment practices.Gay men spend over $5,000 a year eating out (more than double the average American) and 21% spend at least $10,000 per year while 97% of lesbians eat out at least once per week with a median of $3,640 for dining out.83% of lesbians have pets while 61% of gay men have a pet.The average gay man or lesbian spends at least $500 on clothing per year (however, younger gay men spend $250 more on clothing annually than younger lesbians).88% of gay men and 97% of lesbians own a car. 52% of lesbians own an SUV and 10% own a Motorcycle or scooter.Wow,
I should be rich, connected, stylish, cultured, worldly, and fit.
Where did I go wrong?
