The 85th Annual Academy Awards are tomorrow (Sunday, February 24, 2013) with pre-show/Red Carpet fun starting at 4pm and the actual ceremony starting at 5:30pm Pacific and for the millionth time, they are on ABC.
If you were too lazy/stupid to plan your own Oscar watching party, or too unpopular to be invited to one, you have some delicious options to publicly watch the spectacle with other fashion snarking minded fans in the discomfort of a seedy bar venue.
The number one seedy bar venue/Oscar watching party is the annual Gay City/Three Dollar Bill Cinema funfest, which is being held at The Social but only because the Washington State Liquor Control Board gave the flailing club a reprieve in their battle to obtain a permanent liquor license. The good news is, Robbie Turner and Andrew Tasakos are hosting and the Golden Oscar Go Go Boys will be back…here’s more info:
Walk the red carpet, get your photo snapped by our paparazzi, then mix and mingle with some of Seattle’s finest and most glamorous, all while supporting two of the most prominent LGBT non-profits in town.
The party starts at 4pm, when everyone can watch live coverage and commentary of the red carpet, while VIP guests enjoy a complimentary champagne reception with passed hors d’oeuvres in the main viewing area. At 5pm, everyone can experience the ceremony broadcast on one of many giant projections throughout the venue, while enjoying decadent eats from Cele’s Meals and a no-host bar.
VIP guests receive complimentary valet parking and coat check, preferred & reserved seating in the main viewing area, and a dedicated VIP bar. Paid valet parking will also be available for General Admission guests.
Be sure and get your tickets for the famous Oscar Boy raffle. Prizes will include a fabulous getaway, delightful staycation, and more!

Complimentary Coat Check

This is a 21+ only event.
Option #2 is also a tradition…Purr and Seattle Gay News (the other white meat) are teaming up again for their Oscar Brawl, “A Night at the Oscars”. Apparently, they don’t have a host or much info on the invite so we’re guessing it’s a fabulous opportunity to sit in Purr, get drunk and watch tv…which is different from any other night of the week, in what way?
Other options: R Place, Out West, the Bottleneck and we’re guessing many other venues will be showing the ceremony and offering various drink specials. Central Cinema is offering up wisecracking hosts, Brandon Ryan and Shane Regan to lure you into the depths of the CD.
We’re not really excited about the Oscars anymore…though, the Best Actress race sort of interests us, just because it has an adorable little girl and an adorable, old French lady competing against each other. We hope they both win, so the world can weep at the adorableness of it all.
Also, Seth MacFarlane is hosting which could be terrific…or awful. But, on the plus side, there’s a James Bond tribute with Shirley Bassey AND Adele is performing AND Barbra Streisand is performing, though why this is so, we haven’t a clue.
The Oscars can be fun, but frankly we’re more excited about the “Snatch Game” episode of “Drag Race” happening on Monday night and the prospect of Jinkx Monsoon doing Little Edie from “Grey Gardens”…
